India: Authorities increase security at multiple airports nationwide as of late April 29 following additional bomb threats /update 1

Security increased at multiple airports in India as of late April 29 after series of further bomb threats since April 26. Confirm flights.

Warning

Authorities have deployed an increased security presence at multiple airports in India as of late April 29 following a series of additional bomb threats. Unidentified perpetrators reportedly sent emails to various airports, including Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG), Goa International Airport (GOI), and Jaipur International Airport (JAI). While officials have as yet determined no credible suspicious threats as of late April 29, heightened security measures remain in force at several facilities. It remains unclear how long the heightened security posture may remain in place. Similar bomb threats surfaced on April 26, but the government determined the previous threats to be false.

Related flight disruptions are likely due to enhanced screening procedures. Some lingering disruptions are possible even after the additional measures are lifted. Additional similar threats cannot be ruled out.

Reconfirm flight reservations through at least the morning of April 30. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Heed all official transport and security advisories.

In recent years, India has faced a persistent threat of terrorism, with various incidents targeting public spaces and transportation hubs. After multiple airports, including Kolkata and Jaipur, received threats on April 26, various agencies conducted a widespread search - resulting in the arrest of one individual by the Mumbai Police.

The prevailing security measures at Indian airports denote an escalated preparedness level in response to these incidents. However, this development does not necessarily indicate an exacerbating operational environment; it could be slightly elevated due to the ongoing general election period, which is slated to occur through early June.
