Events commemorating Indonesia’s 73rd Independence Day will be held throughout the country on Friday, August 17. Jakarta will host the main ceremony at the Merdeka (Presidential) Palace, with a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 10:00 (local time). Following the reading and a flag raising event, a military parade will take place in the capital. Heightened security measures (including road closures and an increased security presence) are expected in Jakarta and other major urban areas. Commercial and transportation disruptions are also anticipated throughout the country as communities celebrate Independence Day.
