India: Heavy rain forecast for various states August 13 /update 2

The following Indian states are forecast to receive heavy to very heavy rain on Monday, August 13: Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. In Kerala state, weather authorities have issued a red alert for several districts (e.g. Idukki, Wayanad, Kannur, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Malappuram) due to ongoing flooding which has so far resulted in nearly 40 deaths. Furthermore, coastal regions of western Maharashtra and Gujarat states will experience rough sea conditions.

Context

Floods in seven states have killed around 800 people since the beginning of the 2018 rainy season. The most severely impacted states have been Kerala (190 killed), Uttar Pradesh (170), West Bengal (170), and Maharashtra (140).
