A forest fire is burning approximately 50 km (30 mi) south of Berlin as of Friday, August 24, after having spread significantly overnight August 23-24. The fire is located near Treuenbrietzen in a forest home to a large number of unexploded Soviet-era munitions. Some 550 people have been evacuated from nearby areas. Smoky conditions have been reported in Berlin, which could be hazardous to the health of certain vulnerable individuals.
