Mozambique: Seven die in militant attacks in Cabo Delgado Jan. 13-15

Unidentified armed men attack two villages in Cabo Delgado province on January 13-15; seven people killed and 12 injured

Unidentified armed men reportedly launched several attacks in Cabo Delgado province in recent days. According to police sources, gunmen attacked the village of Olombe (Palma district) overnight on January 13-14, killing five people, injuring 11 more, and burning down several houses. In another incident, gunmen attacked a healthcare center in Nangade district at around 10:00 (local time) on Monday, January 15, killing two people and injuring a third.

Police sources have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected. Nevertheless, according to local sources, the perpetrators of both attacks are thought to be linked to the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab militant group. ​
