Road closures in effect from 08:00 to 14:00 (local time) for Route 32, connecting the capital San José to Limón, June 1-2

Warning

Event

The Public Works and Transport Ministry (MOPT) has announced that Route 32, which connects the capital San José to the coast city of Limón, will be closed for six hours on Thursday, June 1, and again on Friday, June 2, due to maintenance works. The closures will be in effect from 08:00 to 14:00 (local time) on both days.

Alternative routes include Route 10 via Turrialba (Cartago) for travel between Limón and the Central Valley as well as Route 126 via Vara Blanca (Heredia); however, semi-trailers, buses, and other large vehicles are not allowed to use the latter.

Context

Route 32 is a major roadway, not only for domestic travel but also for export-oriented industries, as it connects the country's capital with the Caribbean coast. An estimated 80 percent of Coast Rica's exports leave the country through Caribbean ports.

Advice

Affected individuals are advised to allow more time to reach their destinations.
